Pacific artists Fidalis Buehler, Penny Howard, Kenneth Merrick, Tui Emma Gillies and Sulieti Burrows present a diverse range of work informed by their Pasifika heritage, acknowledging, celebrating and exploring their relationship to both contemporary and traditional society. Northart will host several events related to the exhibition over the weekend of 20 – 22 November as part of Auckland Council’s Urbanesia 2015 regional arts and culture festival. At 6pm on Friday 20th and again at 2pm on Sunday 22nd Penny Howard and Samoan poet Doug Poole will read some of their own poetry. On Saturday 21st from 11am, mother and daughter team Tui Emma and Sulieti will present a tapa making workshop. (Participation is free, but bookings are essential, so call 480 9633 to reserve a place.) You can also meet some of the exhibiting artists at a special event from 2pm on Sunday 22 November.
