Whakatū Marae celebrate Tiriti ō Waitangi through kai, opening our doors to the wider community, embracing the full meaning of working and living together, building stronger relationships and enriching our Māoritanga. Each year we enable whānau to come together and delight us in their variety of Kai/foods from their native lands. When greeting for the first time kai is the way of cementing good relationships with Māori and other cultures. Supporting the Waitangi 175 theme.

Welcoming ceremonies onto the Marae for new visitors
Pōwhiri: 11.00am (Gold Coin koha)
Entertainment: Kapa Haka & other cultural groups
Art exhibition: Toi Whakairo- Maori Art & Crafts - Founders Park in conjunction with the Kai Festival
Traditional foods to sell to the public in tasting portions of $3 or $6.

This is a ground-roots event, it is about face to face contact – meeting your community and sharing in your culture and sharing your food. Experience the foods from all over the world i.e. Maori, Pacific, European, Asia including art & crafts, entertainment etc.
