This is an 2 1/2 day course. This allows full content of course to be learned and practised thoroughly before instructors gain their qualification and teach 'real' students, and for the course timetable to be tailored to make the best of the weather and tide conditions.

The course goes through all the basics of teaching people to windsurf, the basic teaching method and as well general teaching skills and safely running a class. There is no international qualification, each country has their own scheme but this is modelled on the UK RYA system the widest accepted scheme and would set you up well for any teaching from just teaching friends to travel overseas. It starts with a model class, has extensive simulator work to perfect the teaching system and includes teaching practice with you running your own classes together. If successful first time you would finish with a WNZ Basic Instructor qualification and card/certificate. (We don't fail people, we just defer if not yet up to scratch asking you to go away to work on certain skills and then reassess some time later)

If the dates don't suit contact us and we may be able to arrange other course dates (minimum 3 people to run).

The course is based on the RYA teaching system, but has been simplified for New Zealand conditions, and uses a teaching method developed here which has proven effective. The resulting information and skills are taught over quite a short period of time, resulting in a very intensive course, but one which trains candidates to an international level of skill in windsurfing instruction. By the end of the course, candidates will know how to teach a group of beginners to get going on a windsurfer within two hours, and will have the knowledge to run a windsurfing class efficiently and safely. They will also hold a Windsurfing NZ Instructors certificate and ID badge, which recommends them as a highly trained instructor and is recognised internationally.
