Environmental Product Declarations, or EPDs, present the environmental impacts of any product in a comparable way, similar to a nutrition label. Each EPD must follow the same set of rules, helping to create a level playing field. Third-party verification ensures all information is credible and consistent.

For construction products, the main driver for EPDs is green building, with many rating systems now awarding credits for EPDs, including Green Star in New Zealand and Australia. Large developers in Australia, Europe and North America have already begun to request EPDs as part of the tendering process.

For pulp and paper, EPDs provide market differentiation and enable green procurement. In markets where FSC and PEFC are increasingly common, EPDs allow manufacturers to tell an environmental story that brings together their many different environmental initiatives.
Local competitors in Australasia – concrete, steel, and the Australian wood industry – have already produced their own EPDs, creating pressure on the New Zealand wood industry to act. The purpose of this workshop is to understand what would be required to respond.

Experts will help answer your questions on EPDs: What? Why? How? The interactive workshop that follows will clearly outline the business case for an industry-wide approach for producing EPDs of New Zealand wood products.

Cost:
$30 per person (27.50 plus $2.50 ticket fee)
(includes morning tea and a light lunch)

Target audience:
foresters, wood processors, wood product manufacturers, pulp and paper
