These workshops are held regularly throughout the year and cover the management of food waste using worm farms and bokashi composting systems.

Worm farms and bokashi are ideal for generating nutritious, free fertiliser for your garden for free from your food scraps. Learn about the Japanese system of bokashi composting, which perfectly complements composting done in a worm farm.

What your worms can't eat, your bokashi system will - including bones, meat, dairy products, oils and fats, cooked foods, garlic, onion and chillis and even avocado stones!

Keep your organic waste out of landfill and create potent and proven fertilisers for your garden using one or both of these systems. Workshops are a mixture of theory and practical to help you get the most out of your worm farm and bokashi system.

All items required to set up either system are available for sale from the Environment Centre. As an added bonus, all workshop participants receive 10% off purchases made on the day of the workshop.

These workshops are generously funded by Hastings District Council as part of their waste minimisation strategy.
