During WWI 103,000 New Zealanders served overseas. Of those 18,500 died and 50,000 were wounded, including over 500 individuals who called the Manawatu home paying the ultimate sacrifice. Since the end of the war their names have been kept alive through the creation of arches, school gates, honour boards, obelisks and other types of memorials.

Join Peter Olsen on a bus tour of a selection of the more than 50 World War I memorials that dot the Manawatu landscape. Offering insight into the mindset of locals and the communities in which they lived, Peter draws on a deep knowledge of this crucial time in New Zealand history.
