Irish poet and lecturer at Oxford University, Bernard O'Donaghue, will be presenting a talk about the poetry of Irish poets Seamus Heaney and W.B. Yeats in Gore on October 5.

O'Donaghue is in New Zealand as a guest of Otago University's division for Irish and Scottish studies and this is his only talk outside of Dunedin. He was born in County Cork in 1945; he still returns there for part of the year.

Since 1965 he has lived in Oxford where he was a tutor in Medieval English at Wadham College until his retirement in 2011. He has published seven volumes of poems of which the most recent is Farmers Cross (Faber 2011). His selected poems was published by Faber in 2008.
