Fast-paced, funny and frivolous, Butterfly Creek Theatre Troupe's latest production A Little Hotel on the Side is classic French farce.

The play was written and set in the Naughty Nineties - that’s the 1890s - by Georges Feydeau and Maurice Desvalières and translated by Sir John Mortimer (of Rumpole of the Bailey fame). The plot is packed full of thwarted passions, mistaken identities, near-misses, unlikely peccadilloes, secret assignations and moments of panic.

M Pinglet attempts to seduce his best friend’s wife. She agrees to spend the night with Pinglet at The Free Trade Hotel, an establishment catering for couples “with or without each other”. Their tryst is thwarted and chaos ensues as friends, relatives and a comic collection of other characters including the Morality Police descend on the hotel.

Victorian costumes, candlelit rooms, half a dozen doors, six beds and two complete theatrical sets all add to the fun.

Tickets available at the website or from Rona Gallery, Eastbourne.
