Why does life have to be so damn difficult all the bloody time? British-Canadian comedian Gerard Harris kindly lays out the answers in his acclaimed solo show A Tension To Detail, a fast paced hour and a bit of true stories, wild tangents and crackpot theories that cannot possibly live up to the promise of this intro. We'll be dealing with self-defeating behaviour too.

Gerard started out as a joke writer and opener for Jimmy Carr (one of the UK's biggest comedians), reached the BBC 2004 New Comedian Semi-Final (first gig!) and the BBC 2005 New Comedian Semi-Final (second gig!), took a few years off to have a rootless wander around the planet and now tells stories at Fringe, Theatre and Comedy festivals in North America and beyond.
Recent credits include writing children's cartoons for the BBC, repeat appearances on long-running CBC comedy Wiretap, sell-out shows at Just For Laughs' Zoofest in Montreal.

"A British-firecracker, he speaks with the speed of lightning strikes...extremely engaging" - The Coast, Halifax

"A Tension to Detail is an ardent reminder that being an active audience member watching great theatre can be an exhilarating experience...Harris is rapid, catapulting energy, reminiscent of someone like Robin Williams... who jam packs his stories with comedy and charm and builds and builds and builds toward a heart- racing, beat the clock, storytelling sprint" - The Way I See It, Toronto

"A wickedly funny one-person show...Through his sharp sense of humour and captivating storytelling skills, Harris has a knack for making ordinary experiences incredibly entertaining...a hilarious and unforgettable experience that stays good the whole way through... effectively mixes humour and philosophy" - Raise The Hammer, Hamilton

"Hilarious, yet thought provoking...Gerard is a charismatic, yet enticingly energetic performer...Opening night’s audience ran to the stage to hug him" - The View, Hamilton

"Harris brings an impulsive and frenetic energy to the stage. The audience doesn't have a chance to get bored" - Vue Weekly, Edmonton

"The audience hung onto every word, waiting to see where he was going to go next. In the beginning Harris said the show used to be two hours long — and by the time his hour-long performance is over, you’ll wish it still was" - Capilano Courier, Vancouver

"An ever articulate star" - Montreal Gazette

"If you were to watch him at half-speed, he’d still seem to be moving at a faster clip than most people. Come with your antennae up so you don’t miss a thing; he’s very funny and some hilarious insights are delivered almost as after-thoughts" - Montreal Rampage

"He’s prone to self-deprecation, philosophical ruminations and descriptions which might make the more sensitive members of the audience wince - which is why you should definitely go see him ****" - Edmonton Journal

"I found myself hanging on every word as he eloquently detailed the events of his life... Extinguishing the tension of a sometimes tragic event and revealing the core humanity of that event is truly a talent. Gerard Harris is a very funny guy and an exceptional story teller" - Hamilton Today, Hamilton

"Sharpened to a razor edge, Mr. Harris’ nervous charm and dry wit pulls us through... it’s a story well worth hearing, and he’s the only one who could tell it" - Monkey Biz, Hamilton

"It’s all about vulnerability and how the act of storytelling helps us to make meaning out of chaos. Harris is wired, charming, and generous" - The Georgia Straight, Vancouver

"The man lays himself bare in his stories. His catharsis becomes your own" - Peter Aguero, Host of The Moth, NYC
