'The Wonderful Melting Pot of New Zealand Family History'.

This weekend-long event will cover a wide range of topics related to researching genealogy and family history with free seminars, workshops and computer-based tutorials for your enjoyment.

Free, except for Friday's opening night with keynote speakers.

Exhibition room: Hillsborough Room - lower ground floor.
Seminar rooms: Waikowhai Room and Lynfield Room (each seat up to 80 people) – lower ground floor.
Ask an expert workshop sessions: Three Kings Room (seats up to 12) – upper ground floor (library level).
Computer workshops: Mt Roskill Library computer area (seats up to 12 on a first-come first-served basis, bookings unavailable) – upper ground floor.

5pm – 6pm - Hillsborough Room
Mix and mingle with tea, coffee, beverages and canapés. Welcome and opening address followed by keynote addresses.

6pm - 8pm - Waikowhai Room
Dick Eastman on The Family History World in 10-Years’ time. We’ll look into the crystal ball to discuss changing research trends, a changing audience and the growth of handheld devices as it affects genealogy.

Dick’s bio:
US genealogist, Dick Eastman has been involved in genealogy for more than 30 years. He has worked in the computer industry for more than 40 years in hardware, software, and managerial positions. By the early 1970s, Dick was already using a mainframe computer to enter his family data on punch cards. He built his first home computer in 1980.

Shauna Hicks on DNA- Sex, Love and Damn Lies. A personal look at why you just might not be who you think you are!

Shauna’s bio
Shauna Hicks has been tracing her family history since 1977 and worked for over 35 years in libraries and archives. Since retiring, she has written a number of family history guides and is a regular speaker at genealogy cruises, conferences and seminars.

Shauna has a number of tertiary qualifications and is a Fellow of the Queensland Family History Society; a recipient of the Australian Society of Archivists Distinguished Achievement Award and the Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations’ Services to Family History Award.
