Napier Repertory Players - Auditions.

“Verdict” a play by Agatha Christie. Directed by Nanette Wright, QSM.

Auditions for Napier Repertory Players’ 2017 Art Deco production will be held:

“Verdict” is not written in the usual Christie "whodunit" format and comments instead on the complexity and relationship between life, love and ideas. Professor Karl Hendryk is a leading scholar and lives his life according to ethical principles and ideas. It is through these principles that he is forced to move with his ill wife Anya to a new country and a new life.

Period: 1935 in Bloomsbury, London.

Cast Required:
- Lester Cole: Clumsy, likeable young man. Tousled head of hair. Mid 20's.
- Mrs Roper: Rather shifty and unpleasant cleaning woman. Middle age.
- Lisa Koletzky: Tall, handsome, dark woman. Strong enigmatic personality. Mid 30's.
- Professor Karl Hendryk: Virile. Good Looking. Mid 40's.
- Doctor Stoner: Typical old school family doctor. 60's.
- Anya Hendryk: Wheelchair bound. Fretful and faded with a trace of her former prettiness. Querulous, whining invalid. Late 30's.
- Helen Rollander: Beautiful, self-assured girl. Early 20's.
- Sir William Rollander: Tall, grey-haired man of forceful personality. 50's - 60's.
- Detective Inspector Ogden: Pleasant manner. Poker face. 40's.
- Police Sergeant Pearce: Young man. 30's.

Audition requirements:
Nanette expects an audition piece from her selected pages plus a performance of your choice of page/s - three to four minutes in length.

Nanette also expects that you have read the play and have developed an opinion and understanding of the characters. Nanette has set the play in the mid-thirties rather than the fifties when it was written.

The roles of Lisa, Karl and Anya may reflect an Austrian accent or flavour. These three people have escaped from the political problems in Austria whether from fascism or anti-Semitism. They are well educated and speak English well so it would just be the flavour of an accent.

Rehearsals will commence on Sunday, 13th November and run until Sunday, 18th December 2016. Rehearsals will re-commence on Sunday, 8th January 2017. Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Production Dates:
- 16th February to Sunday, 19th February (Art Deco Weekend).
- 22nd February to Sunday, 26th February (matinee performance on 26th February)
- 1st March to Saturday, 4th March
