A performance of music by Oscar Laven & Marion Arts is in itself a rare event.

The combination of instruments, being bassoon and classical guitar, is rarely heard; a duo of mother and son is, likewise, rare and the music itself, ranging from baroque to contemporary, is totally unique.

This present concert tour sees Laven & Arts uniting their common love for Classical and original music, choosing intimate, ambient venues. Their striking sense of communication is delightful. Apart from bassoon, Oscar will play saxophone and Marion will add her rich, original vocal style.

For the baroque part of the repertoire, Marion has adapted the orchestral parts of Vivaldi, Telemann and Bach for the guitar and will also present a taste of the depth and originality of her compositions.

More about the musicians:
Oscar Lavën is an eclectic wind instrumentalist based in Wellington and is a busy working musician in several genres. Conservatory-trained in both classical and jazz, Laven’s anachronistic crossover style comes through in his playing and improvisational ability.

He directs several of his own groups in the NZ capital ranging from quartets to a 17-piece jazz orchestra and has appeared with ensembles including the Royal New Zealand Airforce Band, The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Rodger Fox Big Band and many others.

Marion Arts began her musical life with classical guitar, a love that has remained, despite a career exploring folk, rock and jazz styles. Her composition and sense of style reflects her rich experience. With an impressive discography and performing career in NZ, Australia and Europe, in NZ she is perhaps best known as vocalist and composer for '70s band Red Hot Peppers.
