Paintings by Dali Susanto
Date: Nov 18 – Dec 2Space: Main Gallery at the CAN, Napier

We are pleased to welcome local artist Dali Susanto back to CAN for the third time. Dali’s exhibition, ‘Blood and Soul’, comprises paintings old and new, and features painted stones to support The Wellness Fund and to raise awareness for those living with HIV in Hawkes Bay. Very close to his heart, Dali’s New Zealand-born wife Mel, was diagnosed with HIV ten years ago after receiving treatment in a Bali hospital for Dengue Fever.

Mel is committed to sharing her story in order to give a face to HIV, to tackle the stigma and discrimination that typically goes with having an HIV diagnosis and to help prevent the spread of HIV through education.

Dali will donate 10% of the profits from his paintings and 100% from the painted stone sales to The Wellness Fund.

Dali Susanto is originally from Java, Indonesia and has lived in New Zealand since 2007. Dali has always loved art, especially painting, and grew up in a place they call ‘The Art Capital of Indonesia’ surrounded by local artists. Amongst these were many talented family members, such as his mother, who teaches Batik courses to national and international tourists from her batik gallery.

Dali usually paints on canvas using acrylic paint, often in black and white.
