Dance is great for both boys and girls, but we believe it's important to offer boys an environment in which they can relax and express themselves while learning the fundamentals of dance. This class is designed specifically for boys, to improve their hip hop knowledge, technique and skills and to increase confidence.

We would enter this group in to a hip hop competition at the end of May. The group can consist of a maximum of 10 so if there are more than that number enrolled in the class the most capable 10 would compete.

This ‘boys only’ group will also be working on dance pieces to perform out our end of year shows in November.

Hip-hop involves a wide range of styles but is characterized by isolations (moving a certain body part independently from others), breaking, locking & popping. What distinguishes hip-hop dance from other forms of dance is that it is often freestyle (improvisational) in nature and hip-hop dance crews often engage in freestyle dance competitions, colloquially referred to as battles. Crews, freestyling, and battles are identifiers of this style.

Hip Hop is a lot more relaxed and open to interpretation than Ballet or Jazz and emphasis is placed on more on musicality than technique – how you ‘feel’ or interpret the music. Hip hop is an entertaining and often humorous dance form set to current music (always age appropriate at Rise Dance Co).

The timetable is subject to change and classes will only proceed if we have sufficient enrolments a week before the start date, so please book early to avoid disappointment. Refunds will apply for classes which do not proceed.
