Buller Festival is a three-day Whitewater Rafting and Kayaking festival held annually on the Matakitaki and Buller rivers in Murchison, New Zealand. 25 years ago, it all began with a group of kayakers having fun on the rapids. Now Buller Festival has grown into the countries biggest whitewater event and attracts competitors from both New Zealand and around the world.

Buller Festival is one of the biggest events held in the Murchison area each year. A usually sleepy town situated on the doorstep of some of New Zealand’s finest paddling grounds, Buller Festival doubles Murchisons’ population for one weekend a year. It is an event that is greeted with much anticipation both in the local Murchison and the wider whitewater paddling communities.
Buller Festival events are based around participation and cater to all levels of kayaking and paddling ability, ranging from the beginner through to the elite. The aim of these events is to ‘get people on the river’ and get them participating.

Events during Buller Festival 2016 include:
- Kayak Boater Cross
- Kayak Slalom (offering both elite and novice courses)
- Rafter Cross
- Rock the Buller BBQ and Party
- Cardboard Cup Race
- Stand Up Paddleboard race
- Bullerfest Prizegiving Ceremony and Gear Expo

Companies will be there to show off their gear for demo and sale, and it will be a great social get together to celebrate 25 years of annual Buller Fest antics.

Come to join the social events of rafter cross or stand up paddle boarding, where equipment is provided. Or there is the competitive side still running in the boater cross and the slalom, some would even say the Cardboard Cup is getting competitive too!
The rivers edge is a great place to watch the competition, enjoying the live M.C and music and a local treat fresh off the BBQ from the BBQ Boys.

Saturday night will see dinner held at the Riverside Campground with live music, family friendly until 10pm. The bar will be open from 7.30pm onwards.
