The Waikanae Music Society’s next concert will showcase a young trio of musicians who are rapidly gaining an international reputation. Currently based in Switzerland, the Calvino Trio have recently been awarded first prizes in two international chamber music competitions. They are visiting New Zealand to tour the country for Chamber Music New Zealand.

The Calvino Trio’s pianist is outstanding New Zealand musician, Jun Bouterey-Ishido, who will be familiar to audiences from the concert stage and his competition successes, including 1st Prize at the 2008 Kerikeri International Piano Competition. He is currently living in Switzerland where he has joined forces with two extremely talented and experienced musicians, Finnish violinist Sini Simonen and Canadian cellist Alexandre Foster.

The three first met and played together in 2013 at the renowned International Musicians’ Seminar at Prussia Cove in England and decided soon after to form a trio. While pursuing post-graduate studies at the Academy of Music in Basel, Switzerland, the trio has a busy performing schedule throughout Europe.

For their 2:30 p.m. concert in the Waikanae Memorial Hall they will be playing popular trios by Ravel and Schubert and will also perform some fascinating brief pieces by the acclaimed New Zealand-based Chinese composer Gao Ping.

Door sales will be available or tickets can be bought at Waikanae New World, Moby Dickens Books in Paraparaumu Beach and at Lush Design Gallery in Raumati.
