Special commemorative event in collaboration with the Massey University Centenary History Programme with presenters: Ashley Ekins, Australian War Memorial military historian and Dr David Richards, ED Consultant, Canterbury District Health Board.

Ashley's presentation is entitled "In sight of victory? New Zealand soldiers and the battle for Chunuk Bair, August 1915."
In this talk Ashley Ekins will examine the New Zealand assault on Chunuk Bair within the context of the overall allied offensive, considering the tactics employed, the actions of allied commanders, and the Turkish responses. He will explore the causes of the failure and suggest why this event has resonated for 100 years and continues to draw successive generations to the tragic site of the battle.

David's presentation is on "Blood, Sweat and Fears: Medical issues at Gallipoli."
Bombs and bullets were not the only dangers facing the fighting men at Gallipoli. Ever present was the constant exposure of men to the elements, the problems of poor sanitation, and the spread of disease. Dr David Richards looks at some of the medical challenges facing the soldiers during the Dardanelle campaign, and those of the medical and nursing personal who were there to help look after them.

Attendance by registration only. Please register using the website link above.
