Creative Processes and Post Production Workshop

Thu 27 Oct 2016, 12:00pm–5:00pm

Where: Alan Dove's Photography Studio, Level 2, 140 George St, Dunedin 9016, Dunedin, Otago

Restrictions: All Ages

Listed by: Nicola Wilhelmsen

We have two amazingly talented local photographers, Alan Dove and Janyne Fletcher, taking this workshop which will be focusing on photography post production techniques and the creative process. This is a great chance to up-skill yourselves and learn some new post production techniques.
Some Knowledge of Photoshop is recommended as this is not a beginners course. We are hoping this will be a chance to have a bit of an open forum about different editing techniques. Should be something for everyone with average-moderate Photoshop skills.

Alan Dove
Alan has been serving clients as a professional photographer for 20 years - his visually powerful, emotionally rich and artistically unique work speaks for itself. He is a fully qualified master photographer of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP) and has won many awards at the NZIPP Iris awards.
Alan will be talking about the following points:

Selling Vanity, An Intro To Portrait Post-Production

- Using liquify tool for face and body manipulation.
- Air-brushing techniques to minimize wrinkles and bags under the eyes, and smooth out skin-tones etc.
- General hair-tidying and de-spotting techniques.
- Using portrait enhancing filters such as Nik Colour Effects Pro 4
- Advantages to using a tablet over a mouse.

"I’ve realized over the years that my clients now expect there to be a certain level of ‘finishing-off’ post production done on their portrait, which they’re happy to pay for. The ‘post' I do is not that sophisticated or tricky but people appreciate it, and now it’s become a standard part of my own best professional practice.

After post the images look more polished or finished, and this helps separates my work from other photographers. I've worked for 20 years in the commercial and portrait fields and also now produce fine-art work. I’m hoping the knowledge sharing at this workshop will be a two-way street as I’m always keen to learn new techniques." - Alan Dove

Janyne Fletcher
Janyne has recently opened her own gallery and workspace in Ranfurly, Central Otago, where she specializes in selling framed fine art illustrative and landscape photography.  She also has extensive experience with commercial and portrait photography. Janyne is a Fellow of the NZIPP and an Associate of the AIPP and also has had numerous prints awarded at the NZIPP Iris awards.
Janyne will be covering the following:

A Less Stress, More Fun Approach to Post Production

- General Workflow/creative process- Open discussion - getting it together in camera, having a bit of plan.
- Having fun with layers, tools and recipes, working to a plan (or not!) and making happy mistakes
- An intro to printing in general and for Awards

"I challenge myself to see beyond the first impression. I love the idea of telling stories and seeing multiple impressions within the same image or a completely different way of viewing of an iconic scene. Entering the Iris Awards has encouraged me to experiment and push my boundaries with editing my images. I love to help my images tell their story more deeply through editing and take a few creative risks." Janyne Fletcher

You are welcome to bring along the following if you would like to work along with the speakers:

We will be starting promptly at 12 so please be there nice and early.
