The greenhouse effect, that leads to global warming and climate change, was discovered in the 19th century and is now beginning to take effect around the world, with storms, flooding, and rising sea levels.

Like many other countries, New Zealand has pledged to drastically reduce our emissions. What can we do?

This free public lecture will cover some of the latest developments in climate change and climate science and lead into a discussion of how all of us can cut our carbon emissions - easily, quickly and deeply - at home and at work.

The speaker is Distinguished Professor Robert McLachlan of Massey University. Robert McLachlan grew up in Christchurch and has worked in Europe, North America and New Zealand. He has been a research fellow at the Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge, and the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, Berkeley. He runs the Climate Change Seminar at the Institute of Fundamental Sciences, Massey University, and is developing a carbon reduction strategy for the university.
