We're teaming up with Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa to deliver public seminars on research in the conservation and science sectors! Join us for the first seminar: Discovering Orchids.

Unlike tropical orchids, most NZ orchids are only a few centimetres high and their flowers dull-coloured and scentless. Their sex life and eating habits, however, are far from average. Come and hear about the quirky strategies some of our native orchids use to fertilise their flowers, rare new species and our success propagating a threatened native orchid.

Seminar starts 7:30 pm sharp. Doors open at 7 pm for tea and coffee.

Koha welcomed.

Speaker:
Carlos Lehnebach is a curator at Te Papa. He is interested in the diversity and evolution of New Zealand plants and their connection with his native South America. Carlos specialises in orchids and his current projects focus on describing NZ orchid diversity and their pollination. He is also interested in developing methods to propagate native orchids from seed as a tool for conservation of threatened species.
