Night Will Fall
UK, USA, ISRAEL | 2014 | 75 min | Director: Andre Singer

This is a film not to be missed. Not only is Night Will Fall an important document but it is unique in having Alfred Hitchcock and producer Sidney Bernstein collaborate on what maybe the only documentary Hitchcock was involved in.

Britain’s army film unit commissioned Bernstein to make a record of the Nazi death camps, using footage pouring in from the liberation of Belsen, Buchenwald, Dachau, Auschwitz and elsewhere. Bernstein employed Alfred Hitchcock as a supervising director. Yet the film was never completed, stonewalled by political authorities nervous of the growing Zionist movement and in need of Germany as a postwar anti-Soviet ally.

This grieving meditation on inhumanity conceived by Bernstein and Hitchcock has now been finished by the Imperial War Museum. Using images never seen before, it exposes once again the obscenity of Holocaust denial.

This is an extraordinary record. But be warned. Once seen, these images cannot be unseen.

*The film screened at Doc Edge Festival 2015
