Depicting the Buddha is a carefully measured process to create a beautiful, symmetrical image to symbolize perfection and inspire the viewer's mind. In this weekend art workshop, learn the techniques used in Tibetan holy art how to draw Medicine Buddha, a figure of healing of both body and mind. One of the many benefits of drawing a Buddha is that it is much easier to do visualizations in meditation being so familiar with the figure. No prior experience necessary. Appropriate for ages 16 and up. Art materials provided, and may be kept at the end of the course.

The course starts with dinner on Friday followed by an open public talk on Buddhist art. Saturday and Sunday is focused on hands-on artwork for registered students only, finishing around 4:00pm on Sunday.

Led by Ella Brewer: Ella’s artwork features in Buddhist centres around the world. Tibetan Buddhism emphasizes the use of art to inspire and lift the mind and heart. It is Ella’s heart wish to be of service to the Buddhist and wider community by making and teaching others to make holy objects in this tradition. Ella was born in New Zealand in 1971. Ella completed a fine arts degree in painting at Auckland University in 1994 then taught secondary school for twenty years in New Zealand and Britain. Ella completed a seven year apprenticeship with Andy Weber, an internationally renowned artist and expert in the field of Tibetan art.
