Eliah Sakakushev-von Bismarck is the very popular and talented Principal Cellist of the Auckland Philharmonia. Together with well-known New Zealand pianist Stephen De Pledge he will be presenting an attractive programme of three sonatas by Bach, Beethoven and Brahms for the Waikanae Music Society on Sunday 20 March.
Eliah Sakakushev-von Bismarck was born in Bulgaria and has performed world-wide as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral principal and teacher. His concert appearances cover countries from Europe to Japan, Russia to South America, and now New Zealand. He also founded and is artistic director of an annual music festival in Bavaria.
Stephen De Pledge is well known as one of New Zealand’s finest pianists and has also performed throughout Europe, USA and Asia, including concerto appearances with such prestigious orchestras as the include the Philharmonia (London), Bournemouth Symphony and BBC Scottish Symphony. He has also worked with many elite musicians and chamber groups.
Their programme features three cello sonatas from very different eras, all in the key of D Major which is reputed to be the favoured key for the cello in terms of resonance.
The concert, in the Waikanae Memorial Hall, commences at 2.30pm. Door sales will be available or tickets can be purchased at Waikanae New World, Lush Design Gallery (Raumati) and Moby Dickens Books (Paraparaumu Beach).
