How much do you know about New Zealand's cheeky piwakawaka? Join Researcher Nyree Fea for an exploration into the life of these small native birds in Wellington city and their relationship with pest mammals.

Management of pest-mammals is constantly evolving in New Zealand and maintaining ship rat populations at low levels remains problematic. Nyree's research explores what happens to the smaller native birds when ship rat densities increase. The various natural spaces within Wellington City provide a suitable study site as native birds abound in forest and ship-rat densities vary.

Tea and Coffee from 7pm. Admission by koha (small donation).

About Nyree:
Nyree Fea is studying towards a PhD in Conservation Biology and Restoration Ecology at Victoria University of Wellington. Her primary supervsior is Dr. Stephen Hartley. For the last twenty years she worked in pest-mammal research and management for Landcare Research, regional councils and DOC and so this new foray into the biology and conservation of native birds is a welcomed change!
