In 1932 a new state-of-the-art post office was opened on the corner of Tuam and High streets, but today it is better known as a popular destination for art, coffee and film lovers alike. Join us for a street tour of central city buildings that have been adapted for reuse, including C1 Espresso, the Heritage Hotel and the City Council Chambers.

Children are welcome to come and spot the architectural features with our Passport to the Streets, which they can collect from FESTA HQ and return there for stamping. Walking shoes recommended. We will meet five minutes beforehand outside the Curator’s House in the Botanic Gardens.

This tour takes place in the morning (10:30am - 12pm) and afternoon (2pm - 3:30pm)

Free, approximately 15 places available per session. Please email - info@festa.org.nz to register.

This event is presented by Laura Dunham as part of FESTA 2016.

FESTA is a vibrant weekend festival celebrating the unique urban environment of Christchurch and the creative urban regeneration that has emerged from it.

The theme for FESTA 2016 is ‘We Have the Means’, which focuses on citizen-initiated urban regeneration and sustainability through the reuse of waste materials in design. The ‘means’ we are celebrating includes both the people of Christchurch and visitors to the city, who care about the city’s development and flourishing, and the materials that we are able to repurpose and divert from landfill, which is then used to create functioning beautiful and interesting objects for Christchurch.

Our headline event, Lean Means - a spectacular temporary city made from ‘waste’ materials, is set to attract thousands and is live for one night only on Saturday 22 October (rain date 23 October).
