Join Greening the Rubble on a guided tour of some of our new greening projects around the city, including the new Restless Forest, The Tree Museum and more.

The tour will end at our home base, The Green Lab, with afternoon tea to celebrate the installation of our new communal table supporting edible plants. All the materials used to construct the table, stools and paving came from our storage yard, and some of the materials have been up-cycled several times. We will also highlight some of the other innovative designs at The Green Lab, such as self-watering garden beds, a worm farm and green roofs.

Participants must wear flat, sturdy footwear with closed in toes, ie no sandals. Please also bring water, sunscreen, sunhats etc… And your own cup if you’d like to help us reduce waste.

The walk will take about 2 hours. It would be challenging for wheelchair/pushchairs but not impossible.

Please register via emailing Laura at laura@greeningtherubble.org.

This event is presented by Greening the Rubble as part of FESTA 2016.

FESTA is a vibrant weekend festival celebrating the unique urban environment of Christchurch and the creative urban regeneration that has emerged from it.

The theme for FESTA 2016 is ‘We Have the Means’, which focuses on citizen-initiated urban regeneration and sustainability through the reuse of waste materials in design. The ‘means’ we are celebrating includes both the people of Christchurch and visitors to the city, who care about the city’s development and flourishing, and the materials that we are able to repurpose and divert from landfill, which are then used to create functioning beautiful and interesting objects for Christchurch.

Our headline event, Lean Means – a spectacular temporary city made from ‘waste’ materials, is set to attract thousands and is live for one night only on Saturday 22 October (rain date 23 October).
