5 November 1881.

“1600 police and volunteers took part in the attack on the Parihaka settlement, which had become the symbol of protest against the confiscation of Māori land. More than 2,000 villagers sat quietly on the marae as a host of singing children courageously greeted the invading force.”

Join us to remember Parihaka. Gather in the church lounge at 5pm for 'bring your own' tea/takeaways. Then at 5:45pm we stories, games and fireworks. This event will be enjoyed by all ages.

If you'd like to learn a little more about what happened on "Guy Fawkes day" in 1881 in New Zealand, you'll appreciate the talk by Bruce Hamill.

The church is located at 88 The Parade, Island Bay, 100m city side of the shops.
