We have much to celebrate with significant achievements over recent and not-so-recent years. This is an opportunity for us to gather with our fellow Rainbow community members in this region and with those who can offer ideas and encouragement to engage further positive efforts and outcomes for our community.

A range of workshops presentations and discussion forums are to be engaged over three days.

Presenters range from local to nationally recognised professionals and members of the Rainbow community. The focus is on celebrating local successes, sharing ideas and creativity, and promoting programs and support networks for both the Rainbow community and our allies/accomplices in order to celebrate diversity.

Our line-up for Saturday include - Julie Watson from Affinity Services, Toni Burgess on disability, and Lee Ekland from the New Zealand AIDS Foundation with the HIV 101 Workshop.

Sunday will include - NZ Police Diversity, Kayla Astwood on Safe Spaces, Soul on youth, Elizabeth Kerekere on healthy relationships: whanau, partners and the National Rainbow Strategy, Jem with a transgender perspective, and Mani Mitchell and Tommy Hamilton from ITANZ on working with intersecting identities in the Rainbow communities.

Our final day, Monday, will include - Tabby Besley and Connor Mcleod on working with LGBTQIA+ youth and creating inclusive practice, Matt Keen on safe services, Anne Robertson on trans health, and Jean Hera and Joanne Henare on health consumers stories and consumers rights with an LGBTI+ emphasis.

We are hoping to have Louisa Wall speaking before we conclude our Symposium with feedback for a panel of MPs and (hopefully) Mayors.

The Symposium is open to the Palmerston North & wider community – anyone who is interested in celebrating with us and learning more about and working with our Rainbow communities, and seeking information to support people they know of who are facing gender and sexual identity issues.

While meals will not be catered (as a means to keep costs down), light refreshments will be provided.

And - to top everything else, we have some wonderful social events planned:
On Saturday 22 October, the MaLGRA Events Team will present the MaLGRA Ball – celebrating MaLGRA’s 39th birthday with dance, fun, and a fab drag show – hosted by the infamous Lilly Loudmouth. Tickets for this event will be available at a reduced rate.
On Sunday 23 October, the MaLGRA Events Team have a Symposium dinner planned at Café Royale - price is as per menu.
