You are warmly invited to St Matthew-in-the-City for the Good Friday Concert at 5pm on 25th March, given by St Matthew's Voices. Our programme this year will include sacred works by Purcell, Victoria and J. S. Bach, all of which explore different themes about this penitential time.

Two intimate motets by Purcell (Jehova, quam multi sunt hosted mei and Remember not Lord our offences) will open the concert, accompanied on the Donald Barriball Memorial Chamber Organ, followed by J. S. Bach's mighty solo organ chorale prelude Aus tiefer Not schrei’ ich zu dir BWV 686 performed on the Willis Organ.

Following which will be a complete performance of Victoria's moving Tenebrae Responsories for Good Friday, a sequence of six motets reflecting on the events of Good Friday.

Erbarm dich mein, o Herre Gott BWV 721 (J. S. Bach) will be the second organ solo on the Willis Organ, with the concert concluding with three beautiful choral pieces by J. S. Bach (O Jesu Christ, meins lebens licht BWV 118, Crucifixus from Mass in B minor BWV 232 and Ruht Wohl from St John Passion BWV 245).

We look forward to seeing you there.
