Hammond Park is one of the last remaining areas of mature native bush on the banks of the Waikato River. It is home to long-tailed bats, tui, kereru, bellbird, morepork, native fish and glow worms, as well as the regionally rare swamp maire.

The Riverlea Environment Society Inc (RESI) works with the Hamilton City Council and Waikato Regional Council to restore this hidden gem for the enjoyment of all by controlling pests and weeds and planting natives. The increasing birdsong and growing forest is the direct result of work by HCC, WRC and Riverlea residents working together and we want to celebrate what we've achieved, and share that joy with our community.
