Home truths: confronting New Zealand's housing crisis

Housing affordability. Unhealthy homes. Wealth inequality. Environmental sustainability. Social mobility.

The state of New Zealand housing is central to many major issues confronting this country. Learn about Philippa Howden-Chapman’s research into New Zealand’s housing crisis. She will explain how the poor standard of current housing, and the inability of too many people on low incomes to access decent housing, is causing problems that are avoidable.

Philippa Howden-Chapman is a professor of public health at the University of Otago where she teaches public policy. She is also the Director of the He Kainga Oranga, Housing and Health Research Programme and the New Zealand Centre for Sustainable Cities, and the chair of the WHO Housing and Health Guideline Development Group.

Hot Science - Cool Tales is a series of talks run in conjunction with GNS Science.
