Join us for a conversation with some prominent participants, organisers and leaders of protests that have shaped New Zealand’s political landscape.

Public protest is an important part of New Zealand’s participatory democracy, with one of the largest earliest recorded marches happening in Hokitika in 1868, when some 800 people marched to protest the execution of three Irish nationalists in Manchester, England.

With the right to protest protected in the New Zealand Bill of Rights, New Zealanders have continued to exercise their right to protest on a wide range of issues.
