The Auckland Cellists

In this concert of emotionally stirring masterworks, the jewel in the crown is the hauntingly beautiful Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa Lobos, sung by the accomplished and successfully diverse artist Helen Charlton, accompanied by the uniquely sensuous sound of an orchestra of cellos. Schumann’s second piano trio, featuring Auckland Philharmonia Concertmaster Andrew Beer, takes you on a compelling musical voyage through dramatic intensity and whimsical delights to heartfelt lyricism and fiery brilliance. Internationally acclaimed cellist Peter Hoerr draws on the rich tradition of his native Germany to complete this programme of beloved Romantic works with an impassioned performance of Brahms’s deeply expressive and masterly sonata in E minor for piano and cello.
