Some of NZ’s finest woodwind musicians take centre-stage in this joyful celebration of chamber music that radiates elegance and joie de vivre. In the late 1700s the clarinet was new technology and Mozart was the first to show the world its now famed beauty and versatility, so delightfully captured in the beloved “Kegelstatt” trio in E-flat major. Woodwind and strings join together in Mozart’s evergreen flute quartet and in the charming bassoon quartet by his French contemporary François Devienne. The elegant grandeur and virtuosity of Telemann’s recorder concerto take us back to the lavish splendour of the Baroque, and Villa-Lobos’ poetic and mysterious duo for flute and cello transports us into the brave new world of the mid-twentieth century.
