The eigth annual International Kai Festival is on again this Waitangi Day Holiday, Monday 8 February 2016, with Founders Heritage Park and Whakatu Marae working closely together to present a range of traditional and international foods to sample.

Whakatu Marae will also host a Powhiri, a traditional welcome for visitors to the Marae, at 10.30am. There will be a huge variety of international foods on offer made by families living in the Nelson community. Small portions of food are priced at $3.00 or $6.00 to encourage visitors to try a wide range of each.

This years visitors will be able to enjoy live music performances from Tom’s Field who play a great range of folk & world rhythms and popular reggae band Wicked Draw. These bands, along with Samba de Sol and Ofa He Lotu (Free Church of Tonga) will play at both Whakatū Marae and Founders Park.

This year, International Kai Festival also coincides with Chinese New Year and there will be celebrations in the Energy Centre including a selection of traditional Chinese food, drink and entertainment including traditional dance, a Chinese traditional costume show and a Dragon Dance.
