This workshop will be as hands-on as possible and will explore the technology of Bluetooth Beacons, specifically Apple’s iBeacon protocol for device management. The workshop will begin with an overview of beacon technology, a “deep dive” into the nuts and bolts of implementations, and will conclude with practical examples of some great uses for iBeacons and some fun beacon experiments you can conduct yourself, or with your students. We invite you to bring your own Mac or iPad to participate in real time.

Presenter:
Paul is a technology expert and IT Manager at the University of Waikato, working with the Faculty of Education. He focuses on exploring innovations with consumer and IT technologies with the goal of uncovering new applications in education and pedagogy. Paul's current focuses are in the fields of Podcasting, eBook creation, technologies for the management and control of mobile devices and creating collaborative, leader-led learning spaces.
