The final InternetNZ Speaker Series event for 2016 is Things and the Internet.

The Internet of Things (IoT) involves everyday objects being subject to network connectivity, allowing data to be sent and received. Think self-driving cars, smart heating and health monitoring. The IoT has the potential to transform many aspects of our lives. More automation, autonomous systems and machine based connectivity to benefit our homes, our businesses and our communities.

While this poses some great economic opportunities for New Zealand, it also raises some important questions about safety and privacy. How do we ensure users are informed and safe? What are the considerations for creators? How can we provide more opportunities for everyone to contribute and innovate?

Panelists for the event are:
- John Edwards, Privacy Commissioner
- Hiria Te Rangi, Whare Hauora
- Erika Pearson, Massey University
- John Hart, FabLab

They will discuss creations, skills, security and ethics around the Internet of Things.

The event will take place on at our Wellington offices as well as being live streamed - a link will be posted on our social media sites @InternetNZ.
