The Lions of Rakaia and Rakaia Sports Clubs are excited to announce that after the success of the 2015 Jackson Holmes Salmon Run fundraiser, we are once again organising a multi-sport, duathlon, run and a fun walk utilising the Rakaia River and riverbed right on the doorstep of the Rakaia Township. This event has something for everyone – individual, three member teams, two member teams and four choices of disciplines. We start and finish around the entertainment area to make it easier for those without support crews. We have events to challenge the best and choices for those that want to have fun.

Multi-sport Event:
A great early lead up event to the Coast to Coast, the event is staged around the splendor of the Rakaia River. Starts from the Rakaia Domain, bike towards the snowcapped mountains, then run the 1.5km through farmland and riverbed to the kayak transition. It’s a good challenge kayaking through the braided river, then enjoy the run home through riverbed, farmland along the Rakaia Walkway to finish at the Rakaia Domain. Challenging, fun and perfect for an early gage on your fitness. Awesome spot prizes, join us for plenty of country hospitality.

Duathlon Events:
Two courses:
Long 35km bike, 13km run and Short 25km bike, 6km run. The choice is yours; individual or team, competitive or for fun. On road bike has riders heading towards the picturesque mountains and running through riverbed, over farmland, along the Rakaia Walkway and finishing in the Domain. Challenging, fun and perfect for an early gage on your fitness.

Run Events:
Two courses:
Long 13km and Short 6km. Lots of off road fun, sharing the same course as the multi-sports and duathletes. Some new round every corner. Can be as challenging or fun as you like. Bring some friends and enter the mate’s race. Go to the website for more information. Challenging, fun and perfect for an early gage on your fitness or not!

Fun Walk:
New 6km walk, under two bridges, through pine plantations, over riverbed, out to the river’s edge, visit an historic site, and enjoy an easy stroll along the edge of town and back to the Domain. Surprising, fun and perfect for those that want to support our event and be part of an enjoyable day out. Spot prizes, food and refreshments are available while you sit back and enjoy the competitors finishing. Join us for some country hospitality.
