This biennial competition is New Zealand's premier event for solo piano and attracts applications from all over the world.

Fourteen outstanding young (under 28 years old) pianists will compete over three days for a prize pool of over $30,000.

The three adjudicators are of high international standing: Jan Jiracek Van Arnim, Artistic Director of the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna; Eleanor Wong, Senior Lecturer and Artist-in-Residence at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, who was on the jury panel at the 2015 Leeds International Piano Competition; and Albert Tiu, Associate Professor of Piano at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore, who was the sole Adjudicator in the 2010 Kerikeri competition.

As well as the competition rounds, there are talks, master classes, an adjudicator's recital and social events.
