It's UNESCO's World Day for Audiovisual Heritage on 27 October, and for the whole week, Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision will be showcasing recent preservation work.

Tonight come and hear Ngā Taonga staff talk about the preservation and digital restoration work that has been done on the Len Lye collection, and see some of his newly restored films.

Len Lye (1901–1980), the New Zealand-born pioneer of experimental film and kinetic sculpture, is one of the twentieth century’s most original artists. Using some of the most innovative production techniques ever applied to the film, he was a master of direct animation and was, as Time Magazine put it, “England’s answer to Walt Disney”.

As a New Zealand artist in London during the pre-war years, and then in the post-war New York avant-garde art scene, Lye mapped a unique course through Modernism.
