This is a charity fun walk to raise funds for children with cerebral palsy and who have serious mobility issues.

Our Blockhouse Bay-Lynfield Lions Club is organising this fun walk with the help of Blockhouse Bay Primary School on Sunday 16th October. The fun is a 10 lap circuit of the attractive school grounds. To raise awareness and funds for NZ Lions' Clubs' Child Mobility Foundation (CMF) to allow them to help more children with cerebral palsy and severe mobility issues.

This is a project dear to our hearts as we see the joy on the young children's’ faces when they can walk unaided for the first time. The Hart Walker provides hands-free mobility and allows children with Cerebral Palsy and other mobility issues, the opportunity to experience walking, often for the first time in their lives. Health benefits can include improved circulation, respiration, digestive system, muscle control and improved balance and coordination. Social benefits include a positive personality change, increased self-esteem, better interaction with others and better social communication.

Once children are used to the walker, they can become very manoeuvrable. The difference a Hart Walker makes in the life of a child with cerebral palsy can hardly be imagined. They are transformed from dependent to independent, in a flash. Amira one of our children fitted to this remarkable machine will be at Blockhouse Bay Primary School as the “star” for Blockhouse Bay-Lynfield Lions Club’s “Walk for Kids”.

This walk is for everyone, adults, children, groups, and a special course will be provided for Amira and other children with Walkers who will demonstrate their use. The actual walk is a 10 lap circuit of the lovely School Grounds, but no matter how many laps were done, it will be the fun aspect and joining together of children and adults in a morning's activity for a brilliant cause that counts.
