Join us for a very special Heritage Matters session, as our colleague Izabella Roman, who is from Poland, tells the story of her uncle Marian Krol during World War 2.

Lost in the past - a story of my family.
This is a story of one missing member of my family, my uncle Marian Krol.

He was born in 1925 as the youngest son of my Great Grandparents, one of eight children. It happened during the tragic times of WWII when Germany and Russia invaded Poland. In 1942, my uncle Marian was taken away from his home and sent to Germany as a forced labourer. That was the last time his family saw him. When WWII ended, his siblings tried to find him but unsuccessfully. Until now...

After 74 years since those tragic days, I was able to meet his daughter, my auntie Christina and find out what happened with her father’s life. When we saw each other for the first time, we couldn’t say a word. We just hugged for a long time and stayed in silence.

After a while, I recognized that we were both crying. It was tears of joy and sadness at the same time. And then we began to talk...
