Greece and New Zealand's alliance will be remembered at this special Mandeville Fly-In event, marking 75 years since the Battle of Crete.

Greek food, flights in vintage aircraft and battle re-enactors, will all be a part of the day.

An exhibition about former Mandeville resident James Hargest's significant involvement in the battle, curated by war historian Dr Aaron Fox, will be on site at the Croydon Aviation Heritage Centre. With a minutes' silence observed at midday and speeches by Dr Fox and representatives from James Hargest College.

Plenty to keep the kids entertained including opportunity to dress in defence force uniform, camouflage face painting and learning the correct way to jump out of a plane! The programme is the same for both days and flying is weather dependent.

The annual Mandeville Fly-In is held the eighth weekend of the year, on the anniversary of the first cross country flight in New Zealand, between Invercargill and Gore, on 20 February, 1914.
