Massey University, in partnership with ATEED, KiwiSpace and Aerospace Education, is delighted to announce the launch of the 2016 NZ Rocketry Challenge programme.

Aimed at students in Years 7 and 8, the programme provides teams of students and their teachers with the opportunity to attend a Massey University Rocketry Boot Camp in September before going on to compete in the National Challenge in November.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn some real 'rocket science'.

It also offers the chance for teaching staff to further develop your skills in this area, preparing you to inspire and motivate the next generation of learners and leaders in New Zealand science and innovation.

The competition is aimed at students in Years 7 and 8, and will require the support of a member of the teaching staff in the school. The good news for schools is that although your support is required, we will take care of the health and safety aspects, and materials are provided free of charge to participating teams.

To kick off the 2016 season of the NZ Rocketry Challenge, we're holding a two-day Rocketry Boot camp during the September school holidays. This is targeted at teachers and students who want to want to get hands-on training on how to make the best rocket.

The Boot Camp is a fun two-day event, led by the experts at Aerospace Education and thanks to the generous support of Massey University and Albany Junior High School, it's completely free!

- 200 students in teams of four (priority given to year 7 students)
- 50 teachers
- Hands-on experience designing, building and flying a rocket
- Breakout sessions for teachers

Students will work in teams of four, to build a model rocket from scratch. They'll be guided through the science and art of making the perfect rocket, rocket safety, and given tips on how to prepare for the national contest. The weekend will culminate with a mini-contest to see which student rocket reaches the highest altitude!

Teachers interested in registering a team can do so at the website. Interested students can register to tell their teacher - "we want to go!"
