On 28 February 2016 Michael Bell will step down as Director of Music at St Matthew-in-the-City. Michael has worked in this position for 12 years, alongside his position as a teacher at King’s School, Auckland. Michael Bell is well known as a concert organist and as a composer.

Vicar Helen Jacobi comments “We were very sad when Michael announced his departure, but understand there comes a time to move on. The congregation will miss Michael’s extraordinary talent as a composer and improviser. On many Sundays Michael will conclude the service with an improvisation based on a line or a tune from the service or something that fits the theme. His creative abilities are unique.”

There will be two opportunities to farewell Michael.

Farewell Concert. Sunday 21 February 4pm.
Michael on the organ, with the St Matthew’s Voices. Entry by koha.

Final Service. Sunday 28 February 10am.
On his last Sunday at St Matthew’s Michael will lead the St Matthew’s Voices in performing his own composition the Puriri Mass.
Speeches and morning tea to follow.
