The 40th Anniversary of the Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings will be celebrated on Labour Weekend 2016 in Great Lake Taupo with some very special events.

An Evening with the Artist: Matahi Brightwell - 5:30pm - 7pm Thursday 20 October, Taupo Museum.
Come and spend an evening with Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings artist Matahi Brightwell. Brightwell will discuss the story behind the creation of the carvings, the meaning behind them and the connection to his grandmother. For more information and to book contact Taupo Museum.

Visit the Maori Rock Carvings with the Artist - Saturday & Sunday 22-23 October, departure times vary.
Visitors will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings with the carver himself. A mihi whakatau (welcome) will be held when the Saturday and Sunday afternoon scenic cruise, sailing and kayak trips arrive into Mine Bay. Graffiato Festival with Matahi Brightwell - Saturday 22 October, Great Lake Centre
Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings artist Matahi Brightwell creates a large chalk drawing demonstrating traditional Maori string-line methods. Come along and help colour in the artwork and chat to the artist as he works. Click here for more information on the Graffiato Festival.

Ngatoroirangi Iti at Taupo i-SITE:
To celebrate the anniversary of the creation of the Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings, a second carving will be installed at the Taupo i-SITE. View Ngatoroirangi’s younger brother, Ngatoroirangi Iti, also carved by Matahi Brightwell from 8:30am, Friday 21 October.
