A garment embedded with LED lights and crafted from merino off-cuts, which can be turned into a sanctuary, will be just one of the creations presented for discussion at the Nature Now symposium.

This year’s symposium will offer a lively programme of papers responding to the themes of nature and time. The work of avante garde designer, Alexander McQueen will be discussed in two papers. Maori dogs, rag rugs, mission samplers, family portraits, the ecological footprint of fast mass market clothing and the demise of Persian weaving are just a few more of the topics on the agenda. There will also be a free exhibition by fashion and textile artists including Waverly Liu, Philippa Steel and Catherine Davies-Colley in Te Ara Hihiko Block 12, Level C. It will be open to the public from 9 am to 5pm during the symposium.
