10 years ago New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) became one of New Zealand’s official languages and to celebrate we’re having a NZSL PechaKucha this May.

Because of its visual nature PechaKucha (20 slides, 20 seconds a slide), accompanied by NZSL interpreters, is an easily accessible event for the Deaf community. NZSL interpreters have been an integral part of PK nights in Whangarei since its inception in 2010 and PK’s regular NZSL interpreters Harri and Tania have put together a fantastic group of Deaf community members, interpreters and hearing presenters who will entertain and educate.

2016 also marks 10 years of New Zealand Sign Language Week – Te Wiki O Te Reo Turi – and this year the focus is on the importance of NZSL in the home and in the community for our young deaf people. To read more about NZSL Week 2016 visit Deaf Aotearoa.

Doors open at 6:30pm and the presentations start at 7:00pm. All proceeds will be going to the Northland Deaf Club.
