A group of Massey and community historians has come together to write a new history of our city.

Most of the earlier histories have focused on the settlement period, or on city governance, or on certain parts of Palmerston North. This new history will take a thematic approach, and will aim to cover the social as well as the political history of Palmerston North. Much of New Zealand's national story has been derived from research related to the four largest cities. This new history will test these generalisations against the experience fo a significant central North island provincial centre.

The themes to be examined are:
City, Nature and Place; Tangata Whenua; An Expanding City; A Political City; Knowledge and Innovation; A City at Work; A City at Play; A Divided City; A Communal City.

Come along and hear how the new history is evolving, some of the stories emerging, and how you might be able to contribute as it expands from a book into digital forms of presentation.

Sponsored by the Palmerston North Heritage Trust.
Second Floor, Central Library.
