Shakespeare’s Monologue Intensive - Lisa Harrow
Actors must love language if they are going to play Shakespeare, but his plays are full of the ‘heightened language’ typical of sixteenth century English: i.e. language that is not ‘naturalistic’, but full of images and metaphors, and many modern actors find that language difficult to make real. Working with actors and their chosen monologues, Lisa’s workshop will demonstrate how they can make Shakespeare’s words their own.

"Lisa almost immediately brings the playing of Shakespeare out of the realm of theory or concept and into a very tangible reality by having the students really focus on a very specific and personal understanding of the text. She gives every student the tools they need to get to the heart of the language by themselves in the future... the ability to understand the rhythyms and their intention, the meaning of the consonants and vowels and why they are used when they are and of course the meaning and significance of the imagery. It is a very simple, clear, and accessible approach to complicated text." - Tom Pelphery, Broadway and Emmy award-winning actor.

Participants should bring a printed copy of their chosen monologue on which Lisa can make notes.
